School Licence Terms

For schools participating in the Monteeno Founding Schools Programme, 2026/27.

1What this covers

These terms describe the basis on which a school uses Monteeno during the Founding Schools Programme for the 2026/27 academic year. They apply alongside the Privacy Policy and the school data-protection information.

2Licence scope

Monteeno grants the school a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the Monteeno platform and its learning content for the education of its own pupils, for the 2026/27 academic year, up to the number of pupil places agreed when the licence is set up.

No licence fee is payable for the Founding Schools year. The licence does not permit reselling access, sharing accounts with another school, or reproducing the content outside the school.

3School and staff responsibilities

The school is responsible for:

  • deciding which pupils are added to Monteeno, and that it is appropriate to do so;
  • the accuracy of the pupil names it enters;
  • distributing pupil sign-in details and keeping them reasonably secure;
  • supervising pupils’ use of Monteeno in line with its own policies;
  • telling Monteeno promptly if an account should be removed.

The school nominates one member of staff as the main Monteeno contact.

4Pupil accounts

Pupil accounts are created by the school from names it supplies. Pupils sign in with a username; Monteeno does not collect pupil email addresses and cannot send email to a pupil.

Staff can reset a pupil’s password and can remove a pupil from the roster at any time. Pupil accounts belong to the school’s licence and end with it, subject to clause 9.

5Acceptable use

The school agrees not to, and to take reasonable steps to ensure its pupils do not:

  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the platform or to another school’s data;
  • copy, republish or redistribute Monteeno content outside the school;
  • use the platform unlawfully or to harass any person;
  • attempt to disrupt or overload the service.

6Data processing relationship

The school is the controller and Monteeno the processor in respect of pupil personal data the school enters. Monteeno is a separate controller in respect of its own business records.

The processing terms required by Article 28 UK GDPR are set out in the data processing agreement, which forms part of this arrangement.

Monteeno’s database, holding all pupil records, is hosted in the United Kingdom (AWS eu-west-2, London). Some of our other service providers are based outside the UK. The data-protection page lists each one and what it receives.

7Support and availability

Monteeno provides support to the school’s nominated contact by email at hello@monteeno.com during the licence period.

Monteeno does not offer a guaranteed uptime level or a contractual response time during the Founding Schools year, and does not pretend to. Planned maintenance will be notified to the nominated contact where practical.

8Intellectual property

Monteeno and its licensors retain all rights in the platform and its learning content. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of that content to the school.

The school retains all rights in the pupil information it supplies.

9Ending the licence and what happens to data

The school may stop participating at any point, without penalty and without notice period, by telling Monteeno.

Monteeno may suspend or end access where it is necessary to protect the service or other users, or where clause 5 is breached, giving reasons.

On ending, Monteeno will delete the school’s pupil accounts and learning records on request and confirm when it is done. Where no request is made, they are deleted automatically 12 months after the licence ends. The full schedule is on the data-protection page.

10Liability

Liability, limitation and indemnity terms are agreed with each school and set out in the signed licence agreement provided before any pupils are added.

Nothing agreed between the parties limits either party’s obligations or liability to data subjects or to the Information Commissioner under UK data protection law, which cannot be contracted out of in any event.

11Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, with the courts of England and Wales having jurisdiction.
