Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23/09/2026

Monteeno is a trading name of Net Werth Ltd. This Privacy Policy applies to the Monteeno website and services and explains how we collect, use and share information.

Schools evaluating Monteeno should also read the school data-protection information, which sets out our subprocessors, our security measures and where data is stored.

1. Who this policy covers

Different people reach Monteeno in different ways, and we hold different information about each:

  • Website visitors who browse without an account.
  • Parents who create an account and may buy access for their own child.
  • Pupils with accounts created by their school under a school licence.
  • School staff who administer a school licence.
  • School contacts who apply to the Founding Schools Programme.
  • People who contact us for support.
  • Competition entrants from The Money Run.

2. Information we collect

Parent and staff accounts

  • Account information: display name, email address and a password, which we store only as a hash and never in readable form.
  • Learning record: progress through modules, quiz attempts and scores, game attempts, points and activity streaks.
  • Purchases: what was bought and a payment reference. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach Monteeno.

Pupil accounts created by a school

Where a school uses Monteeno under a licence, the school creates pupil accounts from names it supplies. For those accounts we hold the pupil’s name as entered by the school, a username generated from it, a class or year label if the school supplies one, a hashed password, and the learning record described above.

We do not collect pupil email addresses. Pupils sign in with a username, and each pupil account carries an internal address on a reserved domain that cannot receive mail, so no email can be sent to a pupil through Monteeno. We also do not collect pupils’ dates of birth, postal addresses, telephone numbers or photographs, and pupils are not asked to write free text that we store.

School applications

When someone applies to the Founding Schools Programme we collect the school name, the contact’s name, role and work email address, approximate pupil numbers, the year groups they are interested in, anything written in the optional message box, and the page and campaign parameters the application came from.

Website use

We keep a first-party record of a small, fixed set of events, such as an application being started or a page being viewed. Each record holds the event name, the page path and a random identifier stored in the browser tab, which is discarded when the tab is closed. It is not linked to any account. We do not use a third-party analytics service, and there is no advertising pixel or cross-site tracking script anywhere on the site.

Competition entries (The Money Run)

When a child entered a Monteeno competition we collected the email address of a parent or guardian, together with the child’s game score, chosen display name and age bracket (for example 11–13, 14–15 or 16–18). We collected the parent or guardian’s email address rather than the child’s, and relied on the parent or guardian’s consent, given at entry, to store this information and contact them about the competition. We used it to administer the competition, rank entries on the leaderboard and notify the winner. Competition entry data is kept for the duration of the competition and six months afterwards, then deleted unless the parent or guardian separately consented to receive our emails.

3. Our role, and the school’s role

For parent accounts, school applications, support messages and competition entries, Monteeno decides how and why the information is used, and is the controller.

For pupil accounts created by a school under a licence, our intended position is that the school is the controller and Monteeno is the processor: the school decides which pupils are added and why, and we process that information to deliver the service on the school’s instructions. This position has not yet been confirmed by a data-protection adviser, and a data processing agreement is in preparation rather than in place. We say so plainly on the school data-protection page rather than presenting it as settled.

4. How we use information

We rely on the following lawful bases under UK data protection law:

  • Performance of a contract, to provide the service to parents who have bought it and to schools we have licensed.
  • Consent, for marketing emails and for storing competition entry data. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.
  • Legitimate interests, in operating, securing and improving Monteeno, and in responding to school enquiries about our own product.

We use the information to:

  • create and authenticate accounts;
  • deliver lessons, mark quizzes and issue certificates;
  • show teachers the progress of pupils at their own school;
  • respond to applications, questions and support requests;
  • understand in aggregate which parts of the programme are used;
  • protect Monteeno and the people who use it.

We do not use pupil data to advertise to pupils, and we do not show advertising to pupils at all.

5. Marketing emails

Where you have consented, we may email you money-skills tips and updates. You can withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting hello@monteeno.com. Pupils are never sent marketing, and cannot be: they have no email address on the system.

6. Sharing information

We do not sell personal information. We share it only:

  • with your consent or at your direction;
  • with the service providers who operate parts of Monteeno on our behalf — our hosting and database provider, our email delivery provider, our payment processor and our video delivery provider. They are listed individually, with what each one does, on the school data-protection page;
  • where disclosure is required by law, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Monteeno, the people who use it, or others.

Where we advertise on third-party platforms, we provide the advertising campaign itself; we do not install advertising or tracking pixels on this website and do not pass account or pupil information to advertising platforms.

7. Where information is stored

Monteeno’s database is hosted in the United Kingdom. All account and learning records, including pupil records entered by a school, are held in Amazon Web Services’ London region (eu-west-2). The database was moved there from the United States on 24 September 2026.

Some of our other service providers are based outside the UK. The platform our application runs on, our email provider, our payment processor and our video delivery provider are United States companies, and we have not yet confirmed every one of their processing regions in writing. We are not going to describe Monteeno as entirely UK-hosted while that is true. Each provider is listed individually, with what it receives and where it operates, on the school data-protection page.

8. How long we keep information

We keep information for as long as an account is active or as needed to provide the service. Competition entry data is kept as described in section 2.

A job runs every night and deletes records once they pass a set period. Pupil accounts and their learning records are deleted 12 months after the school’s licence ends, unless the school has taken out a new one. Sign-in attempt records are kept 90 days, expired sessions 30 days, and the website event records described in section 2 for 400 days.

Separately from that schedule, we will delete a pupil’s account and learning record, or a school’s entire data set, on request, and confirm when it is done. The full schedule is on the school data-protection page.

9. Your rights and choices

  • Access, correction and deletion: you can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing hello@monteeno.com.
  • Pupils and parents: requests about a pupil account created by a school should normally go through the school, which holds the relationship with the pupil. We will act on a school’s instruction and will also help a parent who contacts us directly.
  • Account information: you can update your own account details by signing in.
  • Marketing: unsubscribe from any email, or contact us.
  • Cookies: most browsers accept cookies by default and can be set to remove or reject them. Monteeno uses a cookie to keep you signed in; it is required for the service to work.
  • Complaints: you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
